DIVA: Harnessing the Representation Divergence in Unified Multimodal Models for Mutual Reinforcement

Unified Multimodal models (UMMs) built on a single architecture have shown impressive performance in both understanding and generation. We identify a fundamental challenge that lies in inductive biases induced by distinct supervision signals: generation branch prefers high-fidelity, fine-grained representations capable of reconstruction, while the understanding favours semantically discriminative embeddings that remain invariant to task-irrelevant factors. Consequently, optimizing these complementary but non-equivalent objectives within a monolithic backbone leads to mutual impairment instead of enhancement. In this paper, we first analyze the root cause of this interference in unified backbones and reveal a complementary structure in their internal representations. Motivated by the observation, we propose DIVA, a self-improved post-training framework that transforms the representation divergence into interior synergy. By explicitly factorizing the visual representation into shared and unique components based on two complementary information flow, DIVA enables both the understanding and generation branches to achieve beneficial transferring while preserving the integrity of unique information from cross-flow interference via mutual information estimation. Despite its generality, our method consistently achieves improvements across visual understanding (+7.82%) and generation (+8.46%). SynIB: Informational Bottleneck for Maximizing Synergy in Multimodal Learning

A central objective in multimodal learning is to capture synergy: task-relevant information that arises only from the joint use of multiple modalities, and is not available from any single modality alone. While most approaches operate at the architectural level through larger or more complex fusion models, we propose a complementary axis: shaping the training objective itself. Standard training often emphasizes unimodal or redundant information, falling short on examples that require cross-modal reasoning. We formalize multimodal synergy through information theory and introduce the Synergistic Information Bottleneck (SynIB), a scalable objective that targets synergy directly. To prioritize learning synergy, SynIB motivates the model to predict accurately from all modalities while penalizing confidence when information from any modality is withheld. Alongside the standard task loss, the model runs forward passes with one modality masked at a time and is penalized for remaining confident, which would indicate reliance on unimodal cues rather than cross-modal interactions. We validate SynIB in two regimes. On synthetic XOR tasks where the ground-truth synergy is known by construction, standard training fails to recover it while SynIB does. On five real-world benchmarks, including three MultiBench affective tasks, Hateful Memes with CLIP-ViT and DeBERTa backbones, and a controllable irony extension of CREMA-D we introduce, SynIB improves accuracy on synergy-dependent examples by up to 7.8% and overall accuracy by up to 3.8%.

Unleashing Cognitive Synergy in Large Language Models: A Task-Solving Agent through Multi-Persona Self-Collaboration

Human intelligence thrives on the concept of cognitive synergy, where collaboration and information integration among different cognitive processes yield superior outcomes compared to individual cognitive processes in isolation. Although Large Language Models (LLMs) have demonstrated promising performance as general task-solving agents, they still struggle with tasks that require intensive domain knowledge and complex reasoning. In this work, we propose Solo Performance Prompting (SPP), which transforms a single LLM into a cognitive synergist by engaging in multi-turn self-collaboration with multiple personas. A cognitive synergist refers to an intelligent agent that collaborates with multiple minds, combining their individual strengths and knowledge, to enhance problem-solving and overall performance in complex tasks. By dynamically identifying and simulating different personas based on task inputs, SPP unleashes the potential of cognitive synergy in LLMs. We have discovered that assigning multiple, fine-grained personas in LLMs elicits better problem-solving abilities compared to using a single or fixed number of personas. We evaluate SPP on three challenging tasks: Trivia Creative Writing, Codenames Collaborative, and Logic Grid Puzzle, encompassing both knowledge-intensive and reasoning-intensive types. Unlike previous works, such as Chain-of-Thought, that solely enhance the reasoning abilities in LLMs, SPP effectively elicits internal knowledge acquisition abilities, reduces hallucination, and maintains strong reasoning capabilities. Function2Scene: 3D Indoor Scene Layout from Functional Specifications

Most text-driven 3D indoor scene synthesis methods generate rooms from object-centric prompts, asking what furniture should be placed rather than how the space is used. Yet in real interior design, a layout is judged by how well it supports its occupants, e.g., their activities and physical needs. We introduce Function2Scene, a framework for generating 3D indoor layouts from functional specifications, i.e., natural-language design briefs describing who will use a room and what they need to do there. Given such a specification, our system parses occupant personas and activities, derives a customized set of functional design constraints from a taxonomy of 17 criteria spanning spatial, ergonomic, activity, and environmental considerations, and uses these constraints to guide layout generation. Rather than relying on an LLM to directly produce a final scene, Function2Scene performs iterative evaluation and refinement through a tool-augmented check-and-repair loop, combining geometric measurements, LLM-based contextual reasoning, and VLM-based visual assessment. Experiments on 30 professionally written interior-design cases show that Function2Scene produces layouts that better satisfy functional requirements than recent LLM-based scene synthesis baselines, with our results preferred in 94.3% of pairwise comparisons. Our work reframes text-driven indoor scene synthesis from placing plausible objects to designing spaces that support human use.

HomeWorld: A Unified Floorplan-to-Furnished Framework for Generating Controllable, Densely Interactive Whole-Home Scenes

Indoor scene generation is crucial for robot simulation and modern interior design. However, complex layouts together with scarce 3D scene data make learning-based generation challenging. Existing methods often rely on hand-crafted rules or focus on isolated sub-tasks (e.g., floorplan synthesis or single-room furnishing), producing whole-home scenes that lack global coherence, realism, and simulation readiness. To mitigate these limitations, we propose a unified hierarchical framework that decomposes indoor scene synthesis into controllable stages. First, we curate a large-scale dataset of 300K real residential floorplans to train a large language model for whole-home floorplan generation. With detailed descriptions and a K-D tree-based representation, our method enables fine-grained, controllable whole-home floorplan generation. Building upon the generated whole-home floorplan, we leverage image generation models to draft furniture layouts from multi-level roaming viewpoints, and then generate the layouts of small manipulable objects on different supporting surfaces (e.g., cabinets, desks, and dining tables) for embodied AI simulation. During furniture and object layout generation, a VLM-based refiner iteratively corrects furniture and object placement, and a 3D generative model enables flexible replacement of individual assets. We further attach basic physical attributes and simple surface texture and lighting setups to complete the pipeline for embodied AI use. Experiments and user studies demonstrate that our pipeline produces indoor spaces with greater layout diversity and stronger 3D design appeal, outperforming prior methods on both quantitative and qualitative metrics. Finally, alongside our generation pipeline, we will release the floorplan dataset and 5K fully furnished scenes to the community. Project Page: https://kairos-homeworld.github.io/

Synergy: A Next-Generation General-Purpose Agent for Open Agentic Web

AI agents are rapidly expanding in both capability and population: they now write code, operate computers across platforms, manage cloud infrastructure, and make purchasing decisions, while open-source frameworks such as OpenClaw are putting personal agents in the hands of millions and embodied agents are spreading across smartphones, vehicles, and robots. As the internet prepares to host billions of such entities, it is shifting toward what we call Open Agentic Web, a decentralized digital ecosystem in which agents from different users, organizations, and runtimes can discover one another, negotiate task boundaries, and delegate work across open technical and social surfaces at scale. Yet most of today's agents remain isolated tools or closed-ecosystem orchestrators rather than socially integrated participants in open networks. We argue that the next generation of agents must become Agentic Citizens, defined by three requirements: Agentic-Web-Native Collaboration, participation in open collaboration networks rather than only closed internal orchestration; Agent Identity and Personhood, continuity as a social entity rather than a resettable function call; and Lifelong Evolution, improvement across task performance, communication, and collaboration over time. We present Synergy, a general-purpose agent architecture and runtime harness for persistent, collaborative, and evolving agents on Open Agentic Web, grounding collaboration in session-native orchestration, repository-backed workspaces, and social communication; identity in typed memory, notes, agenda, skills, and persistent social relationships; and evolution in an experience-centered learning mechanism that proactively recalls rewarded trajectories at inference time.

M3DLayout: A Multi-Source Dataset of 3D Indoor Layouts and Structured Descriptions for 3D Generation

In text-driven 3D scene generation, object layout serves as a crucial intermediate representation that bridges high-level language instructions with detailed geometric output. It not only provides a structural blueprint for ensuring physical plausibility but also supports semantic controllability and interactive editing. However, the learning capabilities of current 3D indoor layout generation models are constrained by the limited scale, diversity, and annotation quality of existing datasets. To address this, we introduce M3DLayout, a large-scale, multi-source dataset for 3D indoor layout generation. M3DLayout comprises 15,080 layouts and over 258k object instances, integrating three distinct sources: real-world scans, professional CAD designs, and procedurally generated scenes. Each layout is paired with detailed structured text describing global scene summaries, relational placements of large furniture, and fine-grained arrangements of smaller items. This diverse and richly annotated resource enables models to learn complex spatial and semantic patterns across a wide variety of indoor environments. To assess the potential of M3DLayout, we establish a benchmark using a text-conditioned diffusion model. Experimental results demonstrate that our dataset provides a solid foundation for training layout generation models. Its multi-source composition enhances diversity, notably through the Inf3DLayout subset which provides rich small-object information, enabling the generation of more complex and detailed scenes. We hope that M3DLayout can serve as a valuable resource for advancing research in text-driven 3D scene synthesis.

RealUnify: Do Unified Models Truly Benefit from Unification? A Comprehensive Benchmark

The integration of visual understanding and generation into unified multimodal models represents a significant stride toward general-purpose AI. However, a fundamental question remains unanswered by existing benchmarks: does this architectural unification actually enable synergetic interaction between the constituent capabilities? Existing evaluation paradigms, which primarily assess understanding and generation in isolation, are insufficient for determining whether a unified model can leverage its understanding to enhance its generation, or use generative simulation to facilitate deeper comprehension. To address this critical gap, we introduce RealUnify, a benchmark specifically designed to evaluate bidirectional capability synergy. RealUnify comprises 1,000 meticulously human-annotated instances spanning 10 categories and 32 subtasks. It is structured around two core axes: 1) Understanding Enhances Generation, which requires reasoning (e.g., commonsense, logic) to guide image generation, and 2) Generation Enhances Understanding, which necessitates mental simulation or reconstruction (e.g., of transformed or disordered visual inputs) to solve reasoning tasks. A key contribution is our dual-evaluation protocol, which combines direct end-to-end assessment with a diagnostic stepwise evaluation that decomposes tasks into distinct understanding and generation phases. This protocol allows us to precisely discern whether performance bottlenecks stem from deficiencies in core abilities or from a failure to integrate them. Through large-scale evaluations of 12 leading unified models and 6 specialized baselines, we find that current unified models still struggle to achieve effective synergy, indicating that architectural unification alone is insufficient. These results highlight the need for new training strategies and inductive biases to fully unlock the potential of unified modeling.
