Apply for a GPU community grant: Company project
I’m requesting a community grant (free CPU Basic tier) for this Space so we can keep a public demo online for Oriented-Det, an open-source oriented object detection framework for Earth Observation.
What this Space is
This Gradio Space demonstrates oriented (rotated) bounding box detection on optical satellite imagery — ships, aircraft, vehicles, harbors, storage tanks, and other DOTA-style classes. Axis-aligned boxes are a poor fit for overhead imagery; orientation is part of the result, not an afterthought. The demo lets researchers, students, and practitioners try that idea in the browser without installing a training stack.

Open-source project
The demo showcases Oriented-Det (pip install oriented-det), a lightweight Apache 2.0 PyTorch framework for rotated object detection in aerial and satellite imagery.

Docs: https://dl4eo.github.io/oriented-det/
Organization: DL4EO (Deep Learning for Earth Observation)
Oriented-Det is developed in France / Europe as a sovereign, on-prem–friendly alternative to heavy detection stacks: clean geometry (rotated IoU/NMS), practical baselines (Oriented R-CNN, Rotated Faster R-CNN, Rotated RetinaNet), DOTA support, and pretrained weights — aimed at open science and production EO teams who need rotation-aware detection without platform lock-in.
Why a grant
This is a open-source project: a public educational demo for the remote-sensing and open-source CV communities. Recent Hub changes mean free CPU Basic is no longer available for Gradio Spaces without PRO/Team. We don’t need GPU for this UI (inference is already external); we mainly need reliable free CPU Basic hosting so the Space can stay up for the community.
Hardware asked
CPU Basic is enough for this Gradio front end. A free or discounted tier so the Space can remain public and restartable would be ideal.
Happy to credit Hugging Face in the Space README and Oriented-Det docs, and to keep the demo non-commercial / educational under the stated licenses.
Thank you for supporting open-source and open-science EO tooling.
Best regards,
Jeff Faudi
